Wolfgang von Schweinitz: Afshari & Klang

This recording brings together two string trios by Wolfgang von Schweinitz. The Plainsound String Trio “KLANG auf Schön Berg La Monte Young” is entirely based on a 4-part chorale composed by Arnold Schoenberg in Los Angeles. The chorale is tuned in classical 5-limit just intonation with pure major thirds and perfect fifths, and performed at a very slow tempo. The Plainsound String Trio “Afshari” was composed during the summer weeks of 2021 for the TrioCoriolis. This study in non-tempered microtonal just intonation is entirely based on the traditional Persian modes assembled in the collection of old Persian melodies called Dastgah-e Afshari or Avaz-e Afshari.
